Sah-B, derived from her middle name, Sakinah and maiden name Britton was born in  Newark, NJ but raised in East Orange and was heavily Influenced by Roxanne Shante , Salt -n-Pepa, and  Sparky D .  So much so that she began  writing rhymes at the tender age of  11.  At the age of 14, she joined Sport D's rap crew, the Revolutionary Posse of Terrace, which included DoitAll Du, from the Lords of the Underground  and Redman. While a sophomore at Montclair State, DoitAll, who was signed to Pendulum Records and working on his Lords of the Underground (LOTUG) album, introduced Sah to legendary producer, Marley Marl.  Her dope rhymes secured her a verse on LOTUG’s, first album, track Flow On  and the follow up  Pete Rock Remix .  She immediately signed with Marley Marl’s production company and shortly after that she signed a record deal with Reprise/Warner Brothers facilitated by Peter Edge.

She took a leave of absence from school to record the album “Some Ol’ Sah-B Sh*t”.  In 1994, Reprise released the single Summa Day. However due to label politics and administrative changes her highly anticipated album was never released.  Although she didn’t gain superstardom, she created a name for herself in the underground circuit in the states and over seas.  Her music allowed her to collaborate and meet many R&B and Hip Hop artists including the legends Notorious BIG and Tupac.  She toured all over Europe to places like Frankfurt, Cologne, Wuppertal, Hamburg, Berling, Munster, Nurnberg, Prague, Munich, Stuttgart, Freiburg, Zurich and Paris. Because of hip-hop, in 2002 Sah-B was also able to make history along with LOTUG for being the first American group to perform in Luanda, Angola in Africa.  She recalls the experience as life changing and humbling..

At the age of 25, Sah’s rap career not taking off the way she had anticipated, she decided to put her music on the back burner and go back to school.  In 2003, she finally graduated from Montclair State magna cum laude with a BA, in Sociology and then earning teaching certifications in special education and mathematics from William Paterson University. During her ten year hiatus from the rap game, she focused on her family while developing a diverse skill set by working in various fields like social services, banking and insurance, non-profit management and education.

With a renewed sense of self, swagger, energy and experience, Sah-B is focusing on using her music as a vehicle to bridge HipHop, education and community together.  Sah-B is no stranger to adversity, in fact, her life challenges has helped solidify her character as a woman and a humanitarian. Hence, her project title Success Above Hurt, which will be a culmination of songs, poems, and short stories, is the essence of Sah-B and her philosophy for life.
